Skunk2 Racing Stealth Civic SiR
If you have a Honda, and want to make it faster, Skunk2 should be on your shopping list. This Civic Si eschews extroverted styling in favor of a stealthy approach. (from LA Auto Show) The Movies! That’s one common worldwide attribute of LA. So the designers of Honda, in honor of LA’s movie persona, created vignettes of vehicles and lifestyles for several of the cultures, lifestyles and images of LA. And they designed them with the imaginative consideration of the second most important characteristic of LA – living on roadways. For the fitness crowd there’s “The Running Bus,” an ingenious human-powered hybrid that features 10 stationary runners inside the bus for power; or the “Jacarzzi,” which is a sleek sports car that doubles as a hot tub. And, the vehicles are presented in the best language of Los Angeles – the Movie Poster.

There is much speculation that this will be the successor to the current NSX. From Honda's statements, this is apparently one of three designs that the company is considering for the 2006 NSX. If that is the case, we may see some other sports car concepts shortly from Honda/Acura.
(from Honda Press Release) Acura's 300-plus horsepower HSC (High-Performance Sports Concept) will make its domestic debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The HSC is a design study combining the ultimate in supercar performance with the interior comfort and handling ease of a daily driver. It features a lightweight body, a compact yet powerful engine and a racing-inspired interior.
The High-Performance Sports Concept features a lightweight 3.5-liter V-6 engine located midship for optimum balance and superior handling. Shifting is accomplished through a unique dial shifter located on the center console or an F-1 style paddle shifter located on the steering wheel.
The HSC features a 4-wheel double wishbone suspension with six-piston caliper Brembo disc brakes on each wheel. Five-spoke forged aluminum alloy racing wheels are shod with 245/35ZR19 tires in front and 295/30ZR20 tires in the rear.
The HSC body is composed of carbon fiber panels over an all-aluminum unit body frame. Short overhangs and a 104.7-inch wheelbase maximize handling and agility.
The cockpit is rounded and sleek for an aggressive look as well as increased visibility. A clear glass engine cover, located behind the cockpit, shows off the engine. The lower body boasts a low waistline, rectangular air intakes on both sides, curvaceous fenders, scissor-style doors and sharp lines that leave no doubt to the concept's sporty nature.
The wedge-shaped front fascia includes large, lower air ducts, projector-style HID headlamps and smooth lines for enhanced aerodynamics. In the rear, high-illumination LEDs are incorporated into the taillight housing for a visibility-enhancing three-dimensional design. Dual exhaust tips are integrated into the bumper and a rearview camera, located next to the taillights, transmits the view behind the car to the driver via the navigation system tilt-up screen when the concept shifts into reverse.
Inside, the concept features a race inspired cockpit with black nubuck leather trim and anodized aluminum accents on the door panels, center console, steering wheel and meter housings. Dual gauge clusters feature a tachometer/shift meter on the left and an analog/digital speedometer on the right. A thick, leather-wrapped performance steering wheel and aluminum foot pedals offer increased road feedback and precise control.

--(from Honda Press Release) HONDA ANNOUNCES NEW CIVIC TYPE R
14 September 2006 --- Honda Motor Europe Ltd today announced the eagerly awaited new Civic Type R, the successor to a model whose unique blend of affordability, exhilarating driving characteristics and everyday usability resulted in sales that exceeded all expectations.
There will be different levels of equipment available, ranging from a fully equipped car to one that even has the rear parcel shelf removed. With these variants, the new Civic Type R therefore looks set to endear itself to a whole new wave of enthusiasts and to repeat the cult success of the first ‘CTR’ which exceeded all sales predictions. The new Civic Type R will receive its international show debut in Paris during September and sales are expected to begin in 2007.
Given the outstanding performance credentials of its predecessor, Honda saw little purpose in increasing engine output. The new Type R therefore continues to be powered by a naturally-aspirated 2.0 litre DOHC i-VTEC engine with similar output, but reworked for greater refinement and responsiveness thanks to a new balancer shaft and a drive-by-wire throttle. The 201 PS maximum power output is now reached at 8,000 rpm (previously 200 PS at 7,400 rpm).
While the headline performance figures are expected to be virtually identical to the 6.6 second 0-100 km/h time and 235 km/h top speed of the Type R in its previous incarnation, the engine enhancements mean the new car is more responsive generally, while improved aerodynamics ensures the new car cuts through the air more cleanly. Slightly lower gearing compensates for a small increase in kerb weight.
VTEC variable valve timing and VTC variable inlet camshaft technology continue to underpin the engine architecture. Its exhilarating, high revving nature is retained, but the switch to high lift, long duration valve timing now takes place at a lower 5,200 rpm, and continues all the way to the 8,000 rpm red line. There is a new i-VTEC indicator just to the right of the digital speedometer which is illuminated within this rev range.
Widely praised for its ride and handling balance, the chassis of the Civic 5-door forms the basis for all 3-door models and provides an ideal platform for a high performance derivative. Building on the Civic Type S suspension which is fine-tuned for sharper chassis dynamics to match its sportier profile, the Type R takes those modifications on to the next level. Like the Type S, its rear track is 20 mm wider than that of the 5-door model, but otherwise damper, bush and spring characteristics are all unique to Type R.
225/40 ZR18 tyres provide added grip, while the 15 mm reduction in ride height further reduces body roll. What’s more, the fuel tank’s central location beneath the cabin floor lowers the centre of gravity and the body’s inertia moment. Firmer steering, a quicker ratio and stiffer steering box mountings in combination provide pin-sharp responses to steering wheel input.
The Civic 5-door already offers one of the stiffest body structures in the C-segment; and the Type R’s body is further enhanced, playing a key role in the particularly responsive chassis dynamics. Extra strengthening has been introduced into the floor cross member just ahead of the central fuel tank, around the upper front suspension mountings, while the lower cross member just ahead of engine bay provides greater rigidity. The overall result is a chassis offering more predictable characteristics than the old model, with levels of responsiveness and stability that are some of the best in class. At the same time, the damper settings deliver enhanced ride comfort in keeping with the increased refinement of the new Type R.
The new Type R’s bold styling is undeniably assertive in its appearance. The aggressive looking body has a series of fully integrated aerodynamic parts that together with a 15 mm reduced ride height – compared to 5-door and Type S models – and standard seven-spoke 18” alloy wheels, are a clear indication of the car’s potent nature. The deep front spoiler incorporates a larger air intake as well as triangular foglamps whose shape mirrors the large exhaust tailpipes at the rear. There’s a distinct body coloured tailgate rear spoiler for added downforce that splits the rear tailgate glass rather than the raised glass profile featured on Civic 5-door and Type S models.
Other identifying features are deliberately discrete: Type R logos feature on the front brake callipers and the glass panel grille of the Civic Type S is replaced with a honeycomb mesh and central red ‘H’ logo.
Step over the stainless steel door sill inserts, complete with ‘Type R’ logo, into the cabin, and again there is no mistaking that this is a car developed for driving excitement. Front seat occupants are gripped by bucket seats with large black Alcantara bolsters with red stitching and red fabric seat cushions and backs. Two distinct rear seats repeat the same colour coordination. The highly effective and strikingly stylish Dual Link concept fascia common to other Civic models naturally features in the Type R, but with red illuminated dials set off by gun metallic switch panels on either side of the meter display. The driver grips a black, perforated leather covered steering wheel with red stitching and central ‘H’ logo, while the matching gear shift knob with aluminium-finish has a black boot with red stitching.
And, as a finishing touch and for added exclusivity there is a plaque engraved with the car’s unique serial number placed just ahead of the gear lever.
For those customers who want added convenience and an enhanced specification, there will be a fully equipped version available. Additional features include curtain SRS bags, cruise control, fog lights, automatic lights and wipers and dual zone air conditioning. A state-of-the-art Navigation system, with voice control functionality as well as RDS traffic monitoring, is offered as an option.
Taking the Type R philosophy to its logical conclusion, a lighter Civic Type R will be available. The deletion of items such as the audio system, rear load cover, engine under cover and reduced noise insulation material brings weight down by 40 kg. This version forms the basis for receiving FIA Group A homologated prepared parts. In addition, the Civic Type R itself will be homologated to FIA Group N and Group A as well as the forthcoming Group R.
All the range of Type R and Type S, are to be built exclusively alongside the Civic 5-door range at the Honda of the UK Manufacturing Ltd. (HUM) in Swindon.

(from Honda Press Release) Honda REMIX Concept Shines Brightly at Los Angeles Auto Show
Styling concept mixes sports car attitude with everyday functionality
LOS ANGELES 11/29/2006 --
The Honda REMIX small sport concept vehicle made its world debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today. The REMIX explores the shape and design of a two-seat sports car focused on agile and fun-to-drive performance that can also provide exceptional practicality as a daily driver.
Sports car in shape and design, the low-slung REMIX features a wrap-around canopy that adds a fighter jet-feel to the driving experience. The aluminum-color exterior accentuates every line and curve in the geometric, yet fluid styling. Capable of delivering more than just driving performance, the rear storage area supplies generous cargo room.
"Pure Honda to the core, the REMIX concept vehicle focuses on a simple, lightweight and fun-to-drive philosophy," said John Mendel, senior vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "The concept balances sports car virtues with real-world practicality."
The REMIX Small Sport Concept is a product of the Honda R&D Americas, Inc., Advanced Design Studio in Southern California. Purely a design concept, the vehicle is fashioned around a front-wheel drive small car platform with a 4-cylinder engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. A sport suspension, along with aggressive tires and brakes, further supplement its performance side.
"The REMIX blends familiar Honda themes into a new, fresh design," said Ben Davidson, REMIX lead designer, Honda R&D Americas, Inc. "Smooth and fluid surfaces provide a sports car identity to the geometric shapes that form the functional aspect of this vehicle."
Honda R&D Americas, Inc., began its operations in California in 1975 with local market research activities and has steadily grown its capabilities over the past 30 years to include all aspects of new vehicle design and development. Recent development efforts include trend-setting products like the Honda Ridgeline, Pilot, Element, Civic Coupe and Civic Si.
The company will operate 10 major facilities in North America with the addition of two new design centers by the end of 2007. More than 1,300 designers, engineers and support personnel are engaged in the development of Honda and Acura passenger cars, motorcycles and power equipment products for North America and global markets. Its main centers of operation include the Los Angeles Center (Torrance) responsible for market research, concept development and styling design; the Ohio Center (Raymond, Ohio) responsible for complete product development, testing and support of North American supplier and manufacturing operations; and two dynamic test facilities in Mojave Desert, California, and East Liberty, Ohio.

(from Bulletproof Automotive Press Release) LOS ANGELES, October 29, 2007 – Bulletproof Automotive, LLC unveils their Honda S2000 GT, the company’s flagship complete tuned street legal car. Bulletproof Automotive, recognized as the leading importer of high end Japanese tuning products and consultant to many leading companies in the aftermarket, conceptualized, designed and built the car using original parts as well as parts sourced from the Japanese tuning elite.
Ben Schaffer, President of Bulletproof Automotive and chief designer of the S2000 GT elaborates:
“Since it’s inception in 1999, I’ve been a fan of the Honda S2000’s purity and driving performance. Over those years through Bulletproof Automotive I’ve consulted with thousands of S2000 clients to help build their dream car. With this project I allowed myself to build my own dream car and as a result I hope to inspire others as their cars have inspired me. From the onset of the project I set out to keep the car street legal because I intend for it to be full functioning and well balanced in every aspect. Despite the intention to drive the car weekly, I also wanted to push the envelope to the extreme edge with regards to performance and overall quality design. As I set out on this project earlier this year, I was inspired by what the Honda S2000 CR does and does not do. I hope to leave the world with a representation of what the tuner market can do with a legal tuned S2000 so that people can enjoy comparing and contrasting the aftermarket’s capability to Honda’s tuner car offering, the S2000 CR. I hope people enjoy both the creativity of our S2000’s design and also the performance that results from it.”
The Bulletproof S2000 GT’s objective is to be aggressive but timeless, strongly stating it’s performance capabilities but still with manners and subtlety often overlooked in the tuner industry. Bulletproof aimed to achieve this by selecting some of the best products that they distribute out of Japan and then modifying, remixing and adding Bulletproof’s own original parts, ultimately finishing it all off uniquely and with great attention to detail.
For example, the Top Secret carbon fiber vented hood is an iconic piece for the S2000, but rather than leave the entire hood carbon, Bulletproof kept the flaunting of the exotic carbon fiber subtle and left only small accents of carbon fiber alongside the vents for true tuning connoisseurs to appreciate. The same treatment goes for the JGTC NSX inspired side mirrors which flaunt a little carbon fiber accent and also were mounted in a subtle but custom location.
The bodywork is one of the first things noticed about the Bulletproof Automotive S2000 GT. Starting as loose fenders and bumpers from multiple high end widebody kits out of Japan (Tracy Sports and Powerhouse Amuse), nearly every panel was “remixed” in a unique way. The end result is a combination of two different Japanese widebodies and many original parts (side skirts and rear bumper are of original design) that despite the multiple sources and design inspirations, come together in a cohesive package that Ben from Bulletproof envisioned.
Symmetry of both visual and functional aspects is kept in mind as the body was fully re-worked. The new body dimensions are equally widened at 4” front and 4” rear. Also equally matched are fully functional front and rear under diffusers which reduce lift and help with high speed stability, the rear diffuser being produced by Top Secret in carbon fiber. Other symmetry details in design are the use of three vertical fins under the front fenders to match the three vents in the hood, as well as a twin canard look front and rear, the front by using the front diffuser edge and the front canards matched to the rear by using the rear bumper’s canards and rear diffuser’s Kevlar vortex generators.
The hardtop is also a Bulletproof Automotive original “remix”, starting as an authentic Spoon coupe hardtop and then modified using the Bulletproof original designed side windows.
The paint and graphics on the car are also the best Japan has to offer. The gold is an ultra exclusive Top Secret gold paint. The graphics are custom made by Japan’s legendary graphic designer and celebrity Manabu “Mana-P” Suzuki of Option and D1GP fame.
The car utilizes two sets of wheels. For the street, it runs Top Secret Gold limited TE37 wheels in 19x9.5 and 19x10.5 size with Toyo Proxes T1R tires. For the track (and as shown in photos) the car runs Ings+1 TS-06 wheels produced by RAYS Japan in 18x10.5 size front and rear with Toyo R1R tires in 265/35/18 size. Both sets of wheels tightly hug massive 6 piston J’s Racing brakes which are produced by Endless of Japan.
The suspension is also ground breaking in design. It utilizes Top Secret Super Dampers (Aragosta dampers re-valved and equipped with SWIFT springs) coupled with Top Secret’s Roberuta Cup Kit which allows in-car as well as remote control (by key FOB) height control to raise and lower the car. This is one of the only suspensions in the world that allows full racing functionality along with immediate remote height control front and rear. The suspension is finished off with many J’s Racing suspension parts including their bump steer kit, pillow ball tie rod and control arm sets and camber joint brackets.
The engine utilizes a CARB legal Vortech supercharger mated to a built F20C motor capable of spinning past 9000 RPM, managed by an AEM EMS. The exhaust system is fully built by Tracy Sports utilizing their header, high flow catalytic converter and full titanium 70mm dual exhaust. For racing duties, the engine is also equipped with a Tracy Sports baffled oil pan and runs to a 4.44 final drive gear also by Tracy Sports.
Final specifications of the engine and drivetrain are still being adjusted. At the time of printing, Bulletproof is preparing an original carbon fiber driveshaft for the car.
The interior is kept functional and elegant. The standard air conditioning and cruise control is retained. The factory seats are exchanged for reclining units by Bride out of Japan, utilizing a Carbon Kevlar shell. The passenger seat utilizes slightly smaller side bolsters for a more comfortable and free ride. A Top Secret one touch quick release steering boss is used with a Top Secret limited edition steering wheel made in Italy. The shift knob connecting to a C’s short shifter is capped off with an ARC burnt titanium unit. Even the rear view mirror is a unique piece from Japan built using a carbon fiber shell.
Although the car is in a perpetual state of tuning and adjustment, the end result will be tested in competition at various future time trial events. Although unlike many time attack cars, this one will be driven to and from the track in comfort.

(from Honda Press Release) Honda Accord Coupe Concept Poised to Reset Segment Benchmark
The Honda Accord Coupe Concept reveals a totally new look for the next-generation Accord, along with key technologies for safety, fuel efficiency and performance, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The Accord is Honda's best-selling model in North America and its debut at NAIAS marks the first time that an Accord concept vehicle has ever been shown at a major auto show.
The styling of the Accord Coupe Concept conveys a powerful stance through its long hood, deeply sculpted lower body and fastback roofline. A six-sided grille and projector headlamps that recess deep into the front fenders contribute to an unmistakable and aggressive front fascia. Quad exhaust outlets integrated into the rear diffuser further convey performance and style beyond any Accord to date.
"The Accord Coupe Concept demonstrates the styling direction for the upcoming, eighth-generation Accord," said John Mendel, senior vice president of American Honda. "As the industry's target for midsize segment excellence, the all-new Accord will set a new benchmark for safety, efficiency, performance, refinement and style."
A more powerful and lower-emissions V6 engine will provide higher fuel efficiency with the incorporation of Honda's next-generation Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) technology. Honda leads the industry with the highest Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) rating for any full line manufacturer* of 29.2 miles per gallon - well above the industry average of 25.3 miles per gallon.
As part of Honda's "Safety for Everyone" initiative, all next-generation Accord models will include the company's Advanced Compatibility Engineering(TM) (ACE(TM)) Body Structure. Honda's ACE Body Structure incorporates a front-end frame structure that helps absorb and disperse crash energy over a large area in a frontal impact. ACE also makes the vehicle more crash compatible in frontal impacts with vehicles of differing ride heights.
The current generations of the Odyssey (2005), Civic (2006) and CR-V (2007) all have the ACE Body Structure. Together, the ACE-equipped vehicles represent more than 50 percent of all 2007 Honda vehicles sold on a sales-weighted basis. With the addition of the next-generation Accord to the lineup of vehicles with ACE, more than 75 percent will be equipped with the technology on a sales-weighted basis after it goes on sale.
Honda Accord History
The Honda Accord, currently in its seventh generation in 30 years, remains Honda's best-selling vehicle worldwide and has consistently been one of the top five best-selling automobiles in the U.S. Known for its ride and handling, comfort and convenience features, safety, quality and refinement, the Accord delivers world-class style with sophistication and performance. The Accord was launched in 1976 with subsequent major re-designs debuting in 1982, 1986, 1990, 1994, 1998 and 2003. More than 9.5 million Accords have been sold in the U.S. since 1976.
Car and Driver magazine named the 2007 Honda Accord as one of the winners of its prestigious and highly competitive annual "10Best Cars" award. The Accord has achieved "10Best" status 21 times in the 25 years that Car and Driver editors have been conducting the competition, more than any other vehicle in the award's history.

--(from Honda Press Release) Honda Accord Coupe HF-S Concept
Honda Access America, Inc., Honda's U.S. accessory development team designed and built the HF-S Concept to demonstrate how the customized use of technology could allow vehicle owners to fine-tune performance while adding their own senses of style. Key exterior and conceptual powertrain modifications represent functional performance and driving-experience enhancements.
Unique LED driving lights, placed on the fore-most corners, wrap around the front of the bumper providing increased visibility both forward and side for the driver while also creating a unique appearance. The shape of the front bumper is designed to create a vortex effect to enhance high-speed aerodynamics and engine cooling. On the sides of the vehicle, the shape of the carbon fiber panels decreases negative speed force around the wheel arches. The rear bumper diffuser is designed to reduce drag. The trunk spoiler is a prototype design engineered for high-speed down-force. The metallic color of the exterior is accented by Cadmium Orange Pearl - a color derived from super-heated metal. The use of this color for the brake calipers, badges, grille accent, and interior details underscores the vehicle's high-performance appearance.
Key to the concept is the use of technology to electronically customize throttle response, suspension settings, steering boost, and traction involvement to the driver's taste. Additionally, the exhaust is a two-stage design. It is engineered to be exceptionally quiet during relaxed cruising, and provide elevated levels of performance in high performance driving situations.

(from Honda Press Release) ‘CR-Z’ stands for ‘Compact Renaissance Zero’—an expression intended to capture the idea of a renaissance in the design of compact cars that begins anew from fundamentals.
This design research model of a lightweight hybrid sports car features advanced technologies that deliver enjoyable driving for all while reducing the vehicle’s environmental footprint.
Exterior design
Designed to be ‘Futuristic and Dynamic’, the CR-Z combines powerful performance in a compact form with a futuristic image. For its frontal view, an over-sized grill with a high-performance look is offset by openings on each side that lighten the overall feel. In the rear, tube-shaped rear combination lamps ensure better rearward visibility. Design details emphasizing the CR-Z’s advanced image include door mirrors that provide high visibility in a stylish form, LED headlights patterned after luminous bodies to convey a sharp impression, and jauntyfin-shaped sub-lights. Large, 19-inch wheels are ready for dynamic driving performance.
Interior design
The key words for the CR-Z’s interior design are ‘Hi-tech and Sporty’. The goal was to create an all-new sporty interior that fuses the liberating feel of airy spaciousness with an advanced interface that brings out the fun of the drive. Mesh material on a simple framework construction is used throughout the interior to convey a light, sophisticated image without being oppressive. In the cockpit, the meter unit conveys the image of advanced technology ensconced in a piece of glass artwork, offering the functionality of immediate recognition while enhancing the driving experience with a futuristic and exhilarating feeling.

(from Honda Press Release) ‘PUYO’ is a Japanese onomatopoeia that expresses the sensation of touching the vehicle’s soft body. It is meant to convey a warm, friendly impression.
The PUYO represents a new idea in mobility that brings together ‘clean’, ‘safe’ and ‘fun’ functionality in an environmentally responsible, people-friendly minimalist design featuring an ultra-high efficiency, small frame and fuel cell technology to please both users and onlookers alike.
Exterior design
The development theme for the PUYO exterior was to create a cornerless, ‘Seamless Soft Box’ form that is kind to both people and the environment. The goal was to create a personable design with the feel of an adorable pet, while taking advantage of the maximum spaciousness of the box-shaped design. The PUYO’s ‘gel body’ features soft materials to promote greater real-world safety. Moreover, the body has been made luminescent to guide people into the proper operating position and notify them of the vehicle’s condition, facilitating a more intimate relationship between people and their cars.
Interior design
Developed to have a ‘Silky Feel’, the PUYO’s interior is designed to provide a refreshing, people-friendly space imbued with a feeling of transparency. Features such as an instrument panel monitor, controls that take advantage of the elastic qualities of cloth to rise up when the vehicle starts up, luminous fluid meter displays, and a joystick for intuitive operation are all designed to gently support occupants’ senses and sensibilities.

(from Honda Press Release) Honda Racing F1 Team launches
pioneering environmental concept The Honda Racing F1 Team today announced a major new initiative for the 2007 Formula 1 season. To help raise awareness of the environmental issues facing the planet, the RA107 F1 car will simply feature a huge image of earth, in place of the advertising and sponsor logos which have featured and dominated all other F1 cars for decades.
The car’s new look is a powerful call to action for fans, sponsors, customers and members of the public to join Honda’s commitment to help address the environmental issues facing the world.
Via the website www.myearthdream.com (http://www.myearthdream.com/), anyone who wishes, will have the opportunity to have their name on the car, make a pledge to make a lifestyle change to improve the environment and make a donation to an environmental charity. Under the concept of “our car is your car”, each name will form a tiny individual pixel which will help build the image of planet earth on the car. Each name will be visible on the website when you make the pledge or under a microscope on the car.
Universal Music, the largest music company in the world, and Gatorade are the first global brands to partner the team in this exciting new concept. Existing partners have enthusiastically embraced the idea and all remain involved with the team for the 07 season. In addition, the team is delighted to announce that Fila, IBM, Instron, Oliver Sweeney, Perkin Elmer, Showa Denko, TUV and GF Agie Charmilles have joined the roster of team partners and suppliers.
The Honda Racing F1 Team will work closely with global environmental charities to develop Honda’s existing environmental ethos within the world’s most high profile motor-sport.
Nick Fry, Chief Executive Officer, Honda Racing F1 Team
“Climate change is probably the single biggest issue facing our planet and F1 is not immune from it. On the contrary we believe that F1 with its huge global profile and cutting edge technology can play an important role in not only highlighting the issues but also playing our part in developing solutions. In addition, the FIA recognises the opportunity for F1 to play an important role in developing technologies for the benefit of society long term. For example, by 2009, devices for energy recovery will be in place on the cars.
“So we at Honda F1 are proud to dedicate our car to the environmental challenge. We believe that solutions can stem directly from engineers working on our F1 program and are working harder than ever to achieve our dreams and win the World Championship while embracing and underscoring Honda’s environmental ethos.”
“First and foremost, we are a race team and F1 is very much a team sport. We achieve our racing objectives only by working together and parallels can be drawn with the way that we must all join together to address the environmental challenge. We hope that in raising awareness and highlighting the issues we will encourage members of the public to come together and help take on the challenge of climate change”.
Yasuhiro Wada, Chairman, Honda Racing F1 Team and General Manager, Honda Motor Company
“Honda has a huge desire to challenge for this year’s 2007 F1 World Championship. We hope this year will be a successful and exciting season. Equally we intend to give something back in the form of our new environmental F1 concept, which we believe will bring something fresh and new to motor sport.”
“Honda constantly strives to be innovative in both its technology and its thinking and to sincerely respond to the demands of customers and society. Honda has always made great efforts to contribute to the preservation of the environment in its corporate activity. We hope this new initiative for Honda in F1 will help to further stimulate awareness and interest across the world for these important environmental issues.”
Honda and the Environment
The Honda Corporation has a rich heritage of pioneering environmental activity. Examples include:
1972 Honda launched CVCC (Compound Vortex Controlled Combustion), the world’s first auto engine to meet the USA Statutory Clean Air Act, a licence sold to most other auto makers to produce lower emissions
1976 Honda started a forestation programme by planting over 250,000 trees around its factories
1999 Honda launched its first hybrid car. The Insight was the first production hybrid car to be available in both the USA and Europe.
2006 Honda is the first automaker in the world to announce global CO2 reduction goals for its products and production activities.
2007 Honda Civic GX is recognised by the Environmental Protection Agency as the cleanest internal combustion vehicle on earth.
Team Ownership
The Honda Racing F1 Team is wholly owned by the Honda Motor Co. The RA107 is the product of a 10 month development programme that has drawn upon Honda’s engineering excellence in its facilities in both the UK and Japan. The Honda Racing F1 Team aims to build on the successful latter part of the 2006 season and is fully committed to realising its World Championship ambitions.

--(from Honda Press Release) The all-new 2008 Honda Accord moves the world of mainstream transportation in a refined, dynamic and sophisticated direction with an expanded range of innovative technologies designed for more power, greater efficiency and enhanced safety across the entire lineup of sedans and coupes.
Completely redesigned for 2008 with increased dimensions for a more spacious interior, the sedan styling theme expresses a powerful presence with sharp and strong character lines. The coupe is further individualized with an aggressive stance and unique proportions that create a muscular, sporty demeanor.
“The all-new Honda Accord has become more advanced and refined with a new level of engineering sophistication,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “As the Honda brand’s flagship automobile, the Accord is designed to exceed expectations with premium technology, a more spacious interior and increased power, while retaining the fun-to-drive character and innovative feel that has always distinguished the Accord.”
An available 3.5-liter i-VTEC V-6 engine produces 268-horsepower – the most ever for any Accord – while introducing a new generation of fuel-saving Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM®) technology and achieving a Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV1) rating. The VCM system operates in six-cylinder mode for power and 4- and 3-cylinder modes for efficiency, resulting in an EPA city/highway fuel economy rating of 19/292 miles per gallon (Accord Sedan V-6).
Also new for Accord, an Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure enhances frontal collision compatibility with vehicles of different sizes and bumper heights. Additional safety equipment standard to all Accord models includes Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®), also known as Electronic Stability Control; sidecurtain airbags; dual-chamber front side airbags with passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS), active front seat head restraints, anti-lock brakes and more.
The Accord is available in sedan and coupe body styles with 2.4-liter 4-cylinder and 3.5-liter V-6 engine choices. Available transmissions include a 5-speed manual (standard with all 4-cylinder engines), a 5-speed automatic (standard on sedan V-6 models, available with all 4-cylinder engines and V-6-powered Accord Coupes,) and a 6-speed manual transmission (exclusive to the Accord Coupe EX-L V-6 6MT).
Sedan trim levels range from the well-equipped Accord Sedan LX and plus featured LX-P (177-horsepower 4-cylinder engine), to the nicely-equipped Accord Sedan EX (190-horsepower 4-cylinder engine or 268-horsepower V-6 engine), to the premium and upscale Accord Sedan EX-L (190-horsepower 4-cylinder engine or 268-horsepower V-6 engine). Coupe trim levels range from the well-equipped Accord Coupe LX-S (190 horsepower 4-cylinder engine), to the nicely-equipped Accord Coupe EX (190-horsepower 4-cylinder engine) to the premium and upscale Accord Coupe EX-L (190-horsepower 4-cylinder engine or 268-horsepower V-6 engine).

--(from Honda Press Release) Honda Factory Performance (HFP) Accord Coupe
As a dealer-installed accessory, Honda's in-house HFP products carry the same 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty as the rest of the vehicle, when installed at the time of new vehicle purchase, and are engineered to be fully compatible with the vehicle. The Accord HFP package includes a wide range of performance- and style-enhancing products. The Sports Suspension package (available Spring 2008) reduces ride height by about 25 mm, lowering the vehicle's center of gravity, and enhancing the Accord Coupe's sporty road-handling characteristics. Larger wheels and tires include 19-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels designed for high-performance 245/40R-19 tires (sold separately). A full aerodynamic body kit (front, sides and rear) further elevates the style quotient of the entire vehicle. Interior and exterior HFP emblems complement the package. All of the Accord Coupe HFP components except suspension can currently be purchased individually, and the full HFP package including suspension will go on sale in the spring of 2008. American Honda launched its performance accessory program in 2002 with the introduction of a Honda Factory Performance package for the Civic EX Coupe, and currently offers HFP products for the Civic, Accord and Fit.

--(from Honda press release) Honda today revealed the Honda FC Sport design study model, a hydrogen-powered, three-seat sports car concept, at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show.
The FC Sport emphasizes the design flexibility and potential of Honda's V Flow fuel cell technology - already deployed in the Honda FCX Clarity sedan - and reconfigures it into a lightweight sports car design with an ultra-low center of gravity, powerful electric motor performance and zero-emissions. The design study concept is inspired by supercar levels of performance through low weight and a high-performance, electrically driven fuel cell powertrain.
"The Honda FC Sport explores how to satisfy automotive performance enthusiasts in a world beyond petroleum," said Dan Bonawitz, vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "People who love sports cars will still have a reason to love in a hydrogen-powered future."
The high-output Honda fuel cell powertrain and a sleek, aerodynamic body contribute to the vehicle's performance potential. A modular approach to fuel cell component packaging and the electric drivetrain contribute to the FC Sport's low center of gravity with the majority of vehicle mass distributed between the axles, creating the balanced weight distribution sought after in sports cars.
The ideal placement of the Honda V-Flow fuel cell stack and related components demonstrates the benefits of a platform-specific, hydrogen-powered fuel cell powertrain. The FC Sport is configured to accommodate a custom-formed high-power fuel cell stack, located between the rear seats, and a battery pack placed low in the middle of the vehicle. The electric motor resides just forward of the rear axle. Two fuel storage tanks, visible from above, are located above the rear axle.
The optimal placement of fuel cell components for performance also allows for a relatively large passenger cabin by conventional supercar standards with enough space for three seating positions. The interior layout focuses primarily on the driver with a racecar-like center driving position. The enclosed canopy opens upward from the rear to allow for entry and exit. Two rear passenger seats flank the driver's left and right side.
The sleek, low-profile body is designed to convey a high-technology appearance with sculpting that combines angular shapes in the front of the vehicle that taper into geometric, hex forms in the rear. The rear hex forms house cooling radiators for the fuel cell. Formula 1-style barge boards behind the front wheels enhance high speed aerodynamics and convey the vehicle's racing pedigree. The hydrogen storage tanks, visible from the rear deck, showcase the FC Sports fuel cell technology in much the same way that a "naked bike" motorcycle showcases its engineering technology.
The glacier white body color conveys the FC Sport's clean environmental aspirations while the dark wheels and deeply tinted glass provide a symbolic contrast befitting of the vehicle's unique combination of clean power and high performance. Green construction techniques further contribute to a reduced carbon footprint. An organic, bio-structure theme is carried through to the body construction where exterior panels are intended to use plant-derived bio-plastics.
The Advanced Design Studio of Honda R&D Americas, in Pasadena, California, developed the FC Sport design study with the primary objective of using existing fuel cell technology as the basis for an ultimate Honda sports car. Designer Jason Wilbur led the design efforts.
Honda R&D Americas, Inc. began its operations in California in 1975 with local market research activities and has steadily grown its capabilities over the past 33 years to include all aspects of new vehicle design and development. Recent development efforts include trend-setting products such as the Honda Pilot, Ridgeline, Element, Civic Coupe and Civic Si.
In 2008, the company opened two new design centers in Southern California: the Acura Design Studio (Torrance), for the research and design of new Acura products; and the Advanced Design Studio (Pasadena), for the exploration and development of advanced design themes for both Honda and Acura.
The company operates 11 major R&D facilities in North America, including a full vehicle development center in Raymond, Ohio, and three design studios in Southern California. Honda R&D designers, engineers and support personnel are engaged in the development of Honda and Acura automobiles, powersports products, and power equipment for North America and global markets. The company's main centers of operation include the Los Angeles Center (Torrance, California), responsible for market research, concept development and styling design; the Ohio Center (Raymond, Ohio), responsible for complete product development, testing, and support of North American supplier and manufacturing operations; and a dynamic test facility in Cantil, California.

--(from Honda Press Release) The manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) for the 2008 Honda S2000 starts at $34,300, plus destination and handling charges, when the vehicle goes on sale today, announced American Honda Motor Co., Inc. The 2008 S2000 MSRP reflects a $50 increase compared to 2007 prices.
The MSRP* for the newly-introduced S2000 CR starts at $36,300, plus destination and handling charges. The S2000 CR enhances the S2000 with more track-oriented suspension settings, aerodynamic-enhancing bodywork, a removable aluminum hardtop that replaces the convertible soft top, higher rigidity and reduced weight. The S2000 CR equipped with air conditioning and an AM/FM/CD audio system is available for the MSRP* of $37,300, plus destination and handling charges.
The S2000 represents the purest expression of Honda fun-to-drive DNA with its 2-seat, open-topped roadster configuration and sophisticated front-engine, rear-wheel-drive platform. As a true sports car that can serve as a practical and fun daily driver that can also feel equally at home on a racetrack, the 2008 S2000 further evolves with the addition of a club racer-inspired S2000 CR. The added S2000 CR features are designed to appeal to enthusiasts who enjoy open track day events and also provide a more ideal starting point for racers who modify the S2000 for competition in club racing events.
The front engine, rear-wheel-drive S2000 rewards driving enthusiasts with a potent 2.2-liter, 16-valve DOHC VTEC® 4-cylinder engine and a precise, short-throw 6-speed manual transmission, along with tenacious handling and an ideal 50/50 weight balance.
The renowned high-revving engine delivers 237 horsepower at 7800 rpm and 162 lb-ft. of torque at 6800 rpm. Perfectly complementing the engine's high-output characteristic is a compact, longitudinally-mounted, close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission that features a direct linkage for precise shifting and quick throws. Additional performance features include a front and rear double wishbone suspension, electric power steering and a torque-sensing limited-slip rear differential.
The S2000 comes with 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels (new wheel design for 2008), ABS and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), also known as electronic stability control. While VSA serves to effectively enhance driver control during acceleration, braking, and cornering, the system can be disabled with the touch of a button when conditions warrant. Air conditioning and an AM/FM/CD audio system are standard equipment on the S2000, optional on the S2000 CR for weight savings.

--(from Honda Press Release) The S2000 CR is an entirely new trim level for 2008. The lighter, stiffer and more aggressive overall design is engineered to maximize the S2000's potential on a racetrack with the goal of substantially-improving track times, chassis balance and feel. Compared to the S2000, the factory-tuned S2000 CR provides more aggressive track-oriented suspension settings, increased body and chassis rigidity, overall weight reduction, and aerodynamic spoilers tuned for reduced lift and enhanced chassis balance at high speeds. A removable aluminum hardtop replaces the convertible soft top.
The aerodynamic package reduces lift through large and specially-tuned front and rear spoilers. Exclusive chassis features include a quicker steering ratio, more aggressive Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tires (in place of RE050 tires), a larger rear tire size, firmer springs and dampers, larger stabilizer bars and the S2000's new wheel design in Kaiser Silver. A rear body brace has been added to the area previously occupied by the soft top, resulting in additional rigidity. Relative to the base 2008 S2000, cumulative weight savings total 51 pounds (hardtop installed) and 99 pounds (hardtop removed). A sport-tuned muffler adds to the vehicles heightened performance feel.
The S2000 CR interior follows traditional racecar themes. Fabric seating surfaces with yellow stitching help create a sporty appearance while synthetic suede bolsters enhance lateral grip. An exclusive spherical aluminum shift knob on the S2000 CR rests 12.6 mm lower for a 6 percent reduction in shift stroke compared to the conventional S2000 cylindrical shift knob (aluminum/leather wrapped). Additionally, shift load effort increases by 10 percent for even more direct feedback when engaging a gear.
The S2000 CR instrument panel meters include a "peak-power indicator." When the engine is operating at peak power, a round, green light illuminates to the right of the digital speedometer. To save weight, air conditioning and an AM/FM/CD audio system are only available as factory-installed optional equipment.
The design and engineering concept for the S2000 is to deliver race-car-like performance and handling-something an enthusiast driver could use and enjoy, even in everyday driving situations. In addition, the S2000 is intended to be a modern, socially-responsible automobile with low emissions. The S2000's roadster layout also captures the spirit of the legendary high-performance sports cars of the past, as well as Honda's very first sports car, the S500 roadster. However, the S2000 makes no attempt to be a retro sports car. It is a unique, Honda interpretation of a modern sports car - with high performance, state-of-the-art technology, style, and Honda durability, quality and refinement

--(from Honda Press Release) Coming to a Track Near You: Club Racer-Inspired 2008 Honda S2000 CR Prototype Makes World Debut at the New York International Auto Show
NEW YORK, April 4, 2007 – The club racer-inspired 2008 Honda S2000 CR Prototype making its world debut at the New York International Auto Show introduces a higher level of track-worthy performance and style to the S2000 roadster, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today.
The S2000 CR will be available as an entirely new S2000 trim level when it goes on sale in the fall of 2007. The lighter, stiffer and more aggressive overall design is engineered to maximize the S2000’s potential on a racetrack with the goal of substantially-improving track times, chassis balance and feel. The factory-tuned roadster provides highly-aggressive suspension settings, increased body and chassis rigidity, overall weight reduction and an aerodynamic body kit dialed-in for reduced lift. An aluminum hardtop replaces the convertible soft top as standard equipment.
“The S2000 CR is the closest thing you can get to a Honda-built racecar with license plate holders and a horn,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “Its features and equipment are designed to appeal to weekend club racing enthusiasts.”
The full-body aerodynamic package reduces lift through large and highly-tuned front and rear spoilers. Exclusive chassis features include a quicker steering ratio, Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tires, a wider rear tire size, firmer springs and dampers, larger stabilizer bars and a new wheel design in a dark gray color.
Substantial structural bracing has been added to the storage area previously occupied by the soft top, resulting in additional rigidity. The aluminum hard top replaces the soft top of the conventional S2000, resulting in an overall weight savings of approximately 90 pounds when removed (relative to the current S2000).
The exclusive interior is highlighted by unique cloth seating surfaces with yellow stitching, a unique spherical aluminum shifter and carbon fiber-style trim panels. Air conditioning and an AM/FM Stereo with CD player are optional equipment. Standard features for the S2000 include 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, ABS and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA). While VSA serves to effectively enhance driver control during acceleration, braking, and cornering, the system can be disabled with the touch of a button when conditions warrant it.
Widely considered the quintessential roadster-style sports car, the S2000 is the performance icon for the Honda brand and combines uncompromising racetrack-ready performance with everyday usability. The S2000 rewards driving enthusiasts with a potent 2.2-liter, 16-valve DOHC VTEC® 4-cylinder engine and a precise, short throw 6-speed manual transmission, along with tenacious handling and a perfect 50/50 weight balance.
The renowned high-revving engine delivers 237 horsepower at 7,800 rpm and 162 lb-ft. of torque at 6,800 rpm. Perfectly complimenting the engine's output characteristics is a compact, longitudinally-mounted, close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission that features a direct linkage for precise shifting and quick throws. Combined with a front and rear double wishbone suspension, precise electric power steering, and a torque-sensing limited slip differential, the end result is a complete, no compromise, performance package for the enthusiast driver.

(from Metra Electronics Press Release) Metra’s newest show vehicle – the ElecTrick Civic – electrified 2006 International CES, attracting media attention that included coverage by CNN and Fox News. Created by Jeremy Carlson, Metra’s in-house customization visionary, the revolutionary ElecTrick drew crowds and created headlines for its convention-defying design and total leap-of-imagination method of control.
As a showpiece for Metra’s mastery of car customization and manufacturing prowess, the ElecTrick delivers beyond the wildest expectations of mere mortals. No longer bearing much resemblance to its original 1994 hatchback self, the ElecTrick lives up to its name since its gas engine has been replaced with a seven horsepower electric motor powered by eight Tsunami batteries.
The ElecTrick incorporates 21 TV screens, including two MFDM20HP 20-inch roof-mount color monitors with a TV tuner mounted from the hatch and fed content from six DVD players and two on-board cameras. Tsunami car sound accessories and Install Bay installation accessories are used throughout. Its powerful 6,000 watt sound system features JBL equipment.
While there are demo cars that have joined the tuner and I.C.E. worlds, the ElecTrick crosses over to appeal to the vast army of video gamers with its one-on-a-kind PSP programmed to control the car’s functions. Aurora Multimedia wrote software using its WACI IP Control System. The WACI interface can be accessed from a 10.4" Touchpanel (Aurora's IBZ-1040W) or from a Sony PSP.
The WACI offers the ability to turn all of the car’s lighting on and off, turning left/right, gas pedal, brakes, horn, opening and closing doors, headlights, blinkers and volume – as well as control the TV screens and their content. The electric motor and some clever wiring even allow the car can be driven remotely via Wi-Fi using the PSP or touch panel.
There’s no steering wheel or pedals – just the PSP, an Aurora IBZ-1040W 10.4" touch panel mounted into the dash, and an analog joystick. Aurora’s Vin Casale performed the inspired programming tasks.
In addition to garnering plenty of ink and video footage from the traditional media, the PSP angle has made the ElecTrick an instant superstar in the gaming world. Widespread coverage on video gaming websites and comments on forums and message boards is taking Metra’s multimedia madness customization to a new level of interest and engagement.

Honda CR-Z (http://www.uncrate.com/men/cars/concept/honda-cr-z/)
Paying homage to the classic CR-X hatchback, Honda will premiere this bad-ass hybrid sports concept at the 40th annual Tokyo Motor Show this month. The Honda CR-Z ($TBD) is a lightweight sports car with amazing styling and a gas-electric hybrid system for clean performance. Standing for "Compact Renaissance Zero," the CR-Z sports an aggressive front end, LED headlights, and big 19-inch wheels. The mesh and glass interior, meanwhile, gives "futuristic" a whole new meaning. [Click the title of this post for more photos.]
