This time we are going to make a very specially illustration. I will take you through the process of creating a real abstract piece that can be done with Photoshop CS2, even without touching your tablet.
So, let's go.

Create a new document and a layer. I will overlay the layer with yellow to black gradient.
Now, I want to practice some filters here.
In Photoshop version 9 or Cs2 you can combine the filters, so that is why we will put several filters on my gradient layer.
1 - Bas Relief.
2 - Texturize.
3 - Palette Knife.
4 - Accent edges.

So, we've combined 4 different filters and gained a very nice, oil painting like, rough edged effect. Let's use it like the style to our creation, but firs I will apply a Photo filter and set the Blending mode to Linear light.

I will flip my image now, because I have and idea about all this madness.

I will apply layer styles to my Layer 1.

I've Just Color Burned the layer with red colored patters and got this.

We
will also need a copy of our key layer.

Make a big transformation now to the layer 1 copy – the one that is higher.
Moreover warp the layer. I just really love this warp tool. Goof thing CS2 has it.

Now it really has the shapes of some king of fire- a very beautiful effect done very fast.
I will now apply only one layer style and set a layer mask. And overlay the mask with Black to White Hard Edged gradient.

Merge the layers. You have to leave only 3 layers to be there – Photo filter – background (non layer) and Base color layer.
I will now apply a Filter > Render > Lighting effect.

You should always remember of your composition. There is one very powerful possibility that PS offers you. It is a mere Flip horizontally tool. if you see
that the image looks still good if flipped – you are on the right track. It is a very powerful feature; I even have this function as a hotkey on my tablet.

Take care about levels.

After you doing that just Flatten the image.

Apply another filter to the whole image: Watercolor.

I've just added a little bit of yellow with lo flow brush.
