Today we are going to create an illustration without any basic idea. It definitely is a technical illustration that takes you over certain abilities that my newly installed Photoshop CS2 has.
So let's get started.
I will now create a document and a couple of layers.
http://www.eyesontutorials.com/images/Effects/Jeka/tut73_LightingEffects/1.jpg
I will fill my first layer with black to white gradient. I usually do this because it helps my to define basic light source.
http://www.eyesontutorials.com/images/Effects/Jeka/tut73_LightingEffects/2.jpg
So here we have it.
Further on I will create a new layer between the gradient and background. This layer will be filled with pattern.
http://www.eyesontutorials.com/images/Effects/Jeka/tut73_LightingEffects/3.jpg
Here are my pattern settings. The pattern looks like the cage and this gives me a certain idea of the
illustration.

http://www.eyesontutorials.com/images/Effects/Jeka/tut73_LightingEffects/5.jpg
Here we have it.
Changing the Mode of the gradient to Soft Light layer will give us a better look.
http://www.eyesontutorials.com/images/Effects/Jeka/tut73_LightingEffects/6.jpg
Soft light.
http://www.eyesontutorials.com/images/Effects/Jeka/tut73_LightingEffects/7.jpg
What I'm going to do is I'm going to transform the pattern layer using this kind of transformation tool that looks like meshing. You won't find this feature is Photoshop.
http://www.eyesontutorials.com/images/Effects/Jeka/tut73_LightingEffects/8.jpg
Now create another layer.
http://www.eyesontutorials.com/images/Effects/Jeka/tut73_LightingEffects/9.jpg
Make this kind of gradient (half transparent), and fill the left and the right parts of the image.
We make it to pop the part that is in the center of the image.

http://www.eyesontutorials.com/images/Effects/Jeka/tut73_LightingEffects/11.jpg
Well, it definitely looks popped out.
Now go to the filter gallery that works very fast in this version of Photoshop,
http://www.eyesontutorials.com/images/Effects/Jeka/tut73_LightingEffects/12.jpg
And chose this filter.
http://www.eyesontutorials.com/images/Effects/Jeka/tut73_LightingEffects/13.jpg
Looks ok.
http://www.eyesontutorials.com/images/Effects/Jeka/tut73_LightingEffects/14.jpg
Now I had this feeling that this scene is happening underwater. I will use several layer styles on my pattern layer.
http://www.eyesontutorials.com/images/Effects/Jeka/tut73_LightingEffects/15.jpg
I will color the image in light blue and overlay with most standard Photoshop pattern.
http://www.eyesontutorials.com/images/Effects/Jeka/tut73_LightingEffects/16.jpg
And here we have it light blue.
http://www.eyesontutorials.com/images/Effects/Jeka/tut73_LightingEffects/17.jpg
Now make a new layer and paint a little bit. I will paint some sunrays coming through the cage.
For painting these rays I will use soft brushes.

http://www.eyesontutorials.com/images/Effects/Jeka/tut73_LightingEffects/21.jpg
This picture gave me an idea that you don't ever have to lock your ideas. If you have something in your mind, just try to realize it.

http://www.eyesontutorials.com/images/Effects/Jeka/tut73_LightingEffects/23.jpg
Ripple the text a little bit.
http://www.eyesontutorials.com/images/Effects/Jeka/tut73_LightingEffects/24.jpg
And we are done here. More over as a final step I've overlaid all this with Blue to transparency gradient from top.
http://www.eyesontutorials.com/images/Effects/Jeka/tut73_LightingEffects/25.jpg
Well. Something like that.
http://www.eyesontutorials.com/images/Effects/Jeka/tut73_LightingEffects/26.jpg
Enjoy!
